Teaching Nukkin Ya and Looking For Alibrandi in two Year 10 classes, I created these video recaps of plot points and prompts for students to discuss – or for those students who refused to read the novel, to catch up before they attempted to write their memoir as a character.

Depending on the availability of technology (video editing) and student abilities, ideally, I had intended these as exemplars for students to create a video for their own memoirs. Curating a video or gallery is a great way for anyone to work ideas up for writing projects.

The Russian equivalent of The Gingerbread Man is about a wayward, round, gingerbread biscuit who runs away from the tray when he was left to cool on a windowsill. On his adventures, he sing a song and he escapes all hazards until the cunning fox flatters his voice and pretends she is deaf so he comes close enough to snap up. The end.

Moral: Don’t fall for flattery.
